Back injury can occur accidentally in many different types
of situations. The most common occurrences of back injury occur in
car accidents or on the job injuries (work related) or as a result
of assault. Back injuries may also occur as the result of a slip and
fall on unsafe premises. Back pain is the leading cause of
disability between the ages of 19-45.
Back injury is sometimes called the "invisible disability".
Physical aid and emotional support is withheld by those who think,
"You look fine." The resultant isolation from acquaintances from
school or work, from long time friends, and sadly, even from family,
adds to depression and delays progress in rehabilitation. Many
victims of accidents causing back injury require back surgery, a
back brace, or a back support for the rest of their lives. Others
find that they may recuperate well, but slight accidents bring
recurrences of their pain and they need to start over again on
therapy and medication.
Depression and pain are linked to back injury. Constant pain,
loss of independence, and destruction of pride and self-esteem added
to financial problems brought on by medical bills and loss of income
- these are a recipe for disaster. Back injuries can cost you your
job, your marriage, your financial well-being and your pride. Back
injuries destroy lives.
The law does provide some relief for victims of back injury.
Vehicle accidents are generally covered under a complex umbrella of
interrelating laws designed to prevent harm or to compensate a
person or group for harm to a person or property. These are called
personal injury laws. Accidents that happen at work or that are job
related, may be covered by Workers Comp laws. There are also laws
for your protection regarding a slip and fall, or other accident due
to improper maintenance or unsafe conditions allowed by a property
owner. A civil suit may be filed for the recovery of monetary
damages in the case of assault.
